The Big Impact of SMall Acts of Kindness

SM shoppers filled their shopping carts with extra goods intended for Yolanda survivors. Loyal customers made adjustments in their shopping lists to make room for donations. Most of the items purchased were bottled water, canned goods, and noodles. The spirit of bayanihan was indeed present in the stores as shoppers showed generosity and selflessness in their efforts to help Yolanda survivors.

Bins allotted for donations in select SM Supermarkets, Savemore Markets, and SM Hypermarkets quickly got filled with bags of goods from SM shoppers. Donating was made easy with SM Donate-A-Bag where essential relief items like bottled water and ready to eat food are already bundled together in a free SM Greenbag which customers can use and reUSE after making their donations. Shoppers just placed the bags in their carts, purchase them, and donated the bags at the designated bins. Donated bags were then sent through SM Foundation and DSWD for distribution.

Each bag donated represented a stranger's intention to shed hope to someone they don't personally know but still cared for. The bags sent a message that even though the extended help can't bring back what was lost, the survivors must never lose faith that someday they can get their lives back on track.

SM shoppers' support for the Donate-A-Bag program reached over 40,000 bags and were shipped to Tacloban, Cebu, and other devastated areas. The Donate-A-Bag project was ran at SM Supermarket Manduriao and Delgado, Savemore Market Jaro 1 and 2, SM Hypermarket Iloilo, SM Supermarket Cebu Reclamation and Consolacion, SM Hypermarket Cebu and Jmall, and Savemore Mactan, Parkmall, Elizabeth Mall, Canduman, Maguikay, Basak, Maribago, SM Supermarket Bacolod, SM Hypemarket Cadiz, Savemore Bacolod East, Libertad, Talisay, SM Supermarket Makati, Megamall A and B, North EDSA, and Cubao. SM Hypermarket Mall of Asia, Pasig, North EDSA, Cubao, Eton, and Monumento. Thanks to the help of concerned shoppers, thousands of Yolanda struck families received relief when they needed it the most.
